Construction of the board starts with a shaped foam blank made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) with a wooden stringer running down the centre to provide torsional rigidity.

The EPS foam core is very light, this weight saving enables the use of additional layers of fibreglass and epoxy resins giving a stronger and more impact resistant surface. The EPS core is hand-finished and wrapped in fibreglass fabric, soaked in epoxy resin and cured in an oven to add to the strengthening process.
